What is the TD Program?
- TD provides special academic advising, tutoring and financial aid based on need to over 1200 students of color and students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
o Part 1: PREP Program, held on a Saturday in April, begins to familiarize you with the URI environment, and prepares you for the summer experience ahead.
o Part 2: Summer Pre-Matriculation Program, six weeks in residence on the Kingston campus includes a writing course and two other university courses for a total of 8 credits. The first week also includes supplementary instruction in college study skills and campus computing. Tutoring, counseling and computer support are provided. Students must earn grades of C or higher in ALL courses.
o Part 3: Academic Year. Students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. Students must meet with their assigned Talent Development Academic Advisor each week and remain in good academic standing (cumulative average of 2.00 or higher) to receive the Hardge-Forleo Grant/TD Scholarship.
How to Apply to TD:
- Apply online before February 1, 2009 using the regular Undergraduate Admission Application. Enter your TD Fee Code to have your application fee waived.
- Fill out the regular application: the only difference is that your personal statement must state why you want to be in TD.

What is the Centennial Scholarship?
- The Centennial Scholarship is a merit award for outstanding freshman applicants. They are four-year awards, renewable each semester as long as you maintain continuous full-time enrollment (12 credits per semester) and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
o Minimum criteria for Centennial Scholarship consideration: Combined Critical Reading and Math Score of 1200 on SAT or Composite Score of 26 on ACT. Must be in top 25% of graduating class.
How to Apply for the Centennial Scholarship:
